TATA COMMUNICATION

Tata Communications is deploying India’s first – and the world’s largest — IoT-dedicated network using LoRaWAN® (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology. The rollout followed a successful large-scale pilot in 2016 with several hundred Kerlink LoRaWAN® Wirnet™ Stations that covered 40 million people in three major cities in India: Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Tata Communications aims at building a strong nationwide IoT ecosystem to enable new business models, improve operational efficiency and provide end-to-end support for organizations across verticals through the combination of:

  • The first dedicated applications center for LoRa® technology
  • A cost-effective, energy-efficient, scalable and sustainable LPWA-based IoT network
  • A universal and modular IoT platform for device design and application development
  • Strong support & deployment expertise to help businesses achieve a successful digital transformation.

Tata Communications’ IoT network coverage is extending to all cities with a population greater than 1 million by 2018, and all cities with a population greater than 50,000 by 2019. More than 10,000 Kerlink WirnetTM iBTS Compact gateways will power this giant network.

“Tata Communications’ initiative of creating a nationwide network for connected devices is ramping up significantly in scale since its launch. We are looking to roll out the network across many cities in India and have partnered with domain experts to help us achieve this ambitious target. Kerlink, one of the founding members of the LoRa Alliance®, demonstrated their willingness and capability to collaborate with us on this project, and we are pleased to have them by our side, every step of the way.”

V.S. Shridhar, Senior Vice President and Head – Internet of Things, Tata Communications

“Tata Communications’ LoRaWAN® networks offer an overall availability higher than 99 percent, and Kerlink carrier-grade solutions have demonstrated their robustness and reliability through three monsoon cycles in India,”

Eric Torres, Vice President and Head of Business Operations and Solution Engineering,

Tata Communications Transformation Services.
