eBook – Smart Building and Real Estate

IoT for Buildings & Real Estate

Energy waste, carbon footprint, healthy working conditions…

Building and facility managers are under increasing pressure to maximize space utilization to boost productivity, control costs and optimize working conditions. In addition to the challenge of ensuring efficient space allocation and usage, managers face increasing and evolving user expectations, such as new ways of working, some prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In its recent report, Berg Insight demonstrates that the building sector represents a key focus area for businesses and government agencies looking to reduce their costs and environmental impact :

  • Commercial buildings account for 30% to 40% of energy consumption and are expected to reach 50% of the total by 2030[1].
  • 30% of their energy is wasted due to inefficiencies in their mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations[2].

Building and construction activities account for 28% of all global energy-related CO2 operational emissions.

The instrumental role of IoT

However, those sectors are ripe for available, low-cost smart-building solutions that can lower both their carbon footprint and their energy waste. Smart building is one of the first two sectors identified as likely to generate the largest efficiency improvements in the short term.

“ICT, and the Internet of Things mainly, could help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings and other corporate facilities by 12% in 2030 in a high-reduction potential scenario (about 8 Gt CO2e).” Ericsson Research [3]

IoT sensors and devices, powered by an industrial-grade private, cost-efficient and performant IoT network, can accelerate the collection of data for smart-building applications data modeling for actionable decision-making.

Innovative solutions, enabled by LoRaWAN

Kerlink and its partners are jointly implementing a wide array of IoT solutions for Building & Real Estate on the ground, to control energy consumption and cut related costs, improve space utilization and reduce CO2 emissions.

This new eBook describes a wide range of easy-to-deploy and efficient IoT solutions, powered by LoRaWAN®, to design key smart-building vertical applications:

  • Occupancy Monitoring – Who’s There?
  • Air Quality & Ambiance Monitoring – Wellness Is in the Air
  • Energy Management – It’s About the Bottom Line
